The Great Cycle Challenge is a fundraiser for Kids Cancer and a personal challenge to get out and ride your bike. We found the Challenge in the summer of 2020 and absolutely loved the idea. It is wonderful to raise awareness and money and get out and have a ton of fun on your own bike.
We originally signed up while we were biking the Katy Trail across Missouri. We knew that we were planning other rides in September, and why not ride for a cause!!! You pick your own challenge lengths to ride and can change them if you meet the goal too early in the month. In 2020 the Great Cycle Challenge did a fun tribute day, and we got our pictures posted in Times Square for 10 Seconds.
This was a very small thing but still a ton of fun to see and get a picture of!!!
Tour de Brewery Lee Summit 2020
We completed our final training ride the Saturday before the 1st of September. We made a fun video of our tour De Brew that you can watch here!!!
The month of September
We posted on social media about our ride and asked people to donate to the cause. This is a great way to get other people interested and helping out. We rode some big mile rides and created videos of our adventures. This made it possible for people to follow along and see some of our fun. If you can raise $500, then you get a Great Cycling Jersey!!! Another really great way to bring awareness all year long!!! We both received our jerseys and were very excited to wear them out on our next ride!!!
Inspiring others to get out and go for a bike ride has always been a goal of ours. We want people to enjoy the outdoors and find the fun of riding their bikes. It always feels amazing to us to know that we got from place to place with only the power generated out of us!!!
Our two biggest rides for the Great Cycle Challenge were our Des Moines Ride and the Cowboy Trail Ride. We had two very different experiences on these two rides. It is also never possible to recreate the same experience of a past bike ride. Make sure to check out those ride posts to see the fun!!! Des Moines Part 1, Des Moines Part 2, Cowboy Trail.
At the end of September, both my husband and I had ridden a total of 384 miles each!!! And with the help of many friends and family were able to raise more than the amount needed to get our free Jersey!!!
We are so excited to ride again this year, and we hope you will join us either riding your bike, donating to the cause, or enjoying the videos we post and telling others about this fun Challenge!!!
